Marine Biologist


When I grow up I want to be a Marine Biologist. It is my dream job because I will be able to work with marine life. I will be able to study, observe, and protect them. I will study the animals and plants origins, behaviors, diseases, genetics and life processes. I would love this job because it involves animals and the ocean. It would also be fun to learn more about the ocean and the things in it.

Job Description


A Marine Biologist researches the sea and its life forms. They research the sea, by studying its life forms and how it interacts with land. They also get involved with the oceans and plants. They rescue and rehabilitate the animals, study them, and observe them mostly. This may not seem common for marine biologist but you have to know how to write good, because they have to write research papers. To become one you must have certain skills and qualities just like any other job.

Facts about Marine Biology and Marine Biologist:
  • Marine Biologist get to explore the ocean with many different animals and discover and learn more about them and their environment.
  • Marine Biologist get to share what they have learned with other people in museums, magazines, and in classes that they teach.
  • The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean in the world.
  • The Atlantic Ocean is the busiest ocean on Earth.
  • Present statistics say that they have found, identified and classified 1.5 million new marine species recently and believer that they will finds lots more in the future.
  • Bottlenose Dolphins are the largest dolphins out of the beaked dolphins.
  • There has recently been an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that is killings lots of marine life.

Education and Salary


Marine Biologist must go to college. They either have to go for four years to get their Bachelor's Degree of if they want to conduct their own research they will have to go to college for eight years to get their Master's Degree. The classes they have to take are chemistry, biology, zoology, physics, mathematics, statistics, biometrics and English. The colleges I have chosen to pursue this career are Department of Fisheries and Wildlife or Department of Oceanography at Oregon State, Hawai'i Institute of Marine Biology, University in Corvallis in Oregon, Utah State University at Logan and Texas A and M University in Galveston. Marine Biologist get total pay between $30,000 and $80,000. The salary is combined with the bonuses, commission, and profit sharing.
